Privacy Policy

Short version: we collect aggregate analytics about how pages are used, advertising on the site is served by third parties who set their own cookies, and we do not sell your personal information.

What we collect

Analytics

We use Google Analytics to understand which articles get read and where readers come from. It records things like page views, approximate location (country or region level), device type, and referring site. We use this in aggregate; we are not trying to identify individuals and have no interest in doing so.

Advertising

Ads on this site are served programmatically through Google Ad Manager and partnered advertising exchanges. These third parties may set cookies or use similar technologies to select and measure ads, including personalised ones. We do not control what individual advertisers collect, and their practices are governed by their own policies.

Affiliate links

When you follow an affiliate link, the destination site may set a cookie so the referral is credited to us. That cookie is set by them, on their domain, and is subject to their privacy policy. See ourAffiliate Disclosure.

Embedded video

Articles embed YouTube videos. We load these throughyoutube-nocookie.com and only after you click play — so nothing is requested from YouTube, and no YouTube cookie is set, unless you choose to watch. Once you press play, YouTube's own terms and privacy policy apply.

Email

If you subscribe to the newsletter we store the address you give us and use it to send the newsletter. Nothing else. Every email has a one-click unsubscribe, and unsubscribing deletes the address.

What we do not do

• We do not sell personal information.
• We do not require an account, and we do not ask for a name, address, or payment details — we take no payments from readers.
• We do not email you because you read an article. Only if you subscribed.

Your choices

• Analytics: Google offers a browseropt-out add-on. Browser tracking protection and content blockers also work; we do not attempt to circumvent them.
• Personalised ads: manage these throughGoogle Ad Settings or the DAA opt-out tool.
• California residents: the CCPA gives you the right to know what personal information is collected, to request deletion, and to opt out of its sale or sharing. We do not sell personal information, and we will honour deletion requests sent to the address below.
